Leone M. Kiefer; Longtime Glendale Resident
Leone M. Kiefer, a Glendale resident since 1913 who was active in the community, has died in Glendale. She was 91.
Mrs. Kiefer died Saturday of heart failure, said her son, Richard.
Born Leone M. Shattuck on July 2, 1899, in Michigan, she moved to Glendale in 1913. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1918. She worked as a librarian at the Glendale Public Library for four years before marrying Emil O. Kiefer in 1922.
Mrs. Kiefer was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Glendale; Order of Eastern Star, Glendale Chapter No. 422; and P.E.O. Sisterhood, Glendale Chapter L, of which she served as president in 1936-1937.
She is survived by her son, Richard of Glendale; daughters Dorothy D. Snodgress of Glendale and Mildred (Chris) Beaver of Laguna Niguel; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, who co-founded Glendale’s Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary, died in 1981.
Visitation is planned from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary, 314 E. Harvard St. in Glendale, which handled the arrangements. A funeral is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 134 N. Kenwood St. Burial will follow at Grand View Memorial Park in Glendale.
