Jane Cary Peck; Scholar of Christian Social Ethics
Jane Cary Peck, 58, a scholar of Christian social ethics at Andover Newton Theological School, an international peace activist and a vice president of the National Council of Churches. Mrs. Peck joined the faculty of the ecumenical graduate school of theology in 1976 and was an associate professor of religion and society at the time of her death. She served on the National Council of Churches governing board for more than a decade as a representative of the United Methodist faith. Mrs. Peck was a leader in Witness for Peace and a founding member of the Life and Peace Institute in Uppsala, Sweden. Last spring, she was in Nicaragua to do research for a World Council of Churches study, “Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation.” In Newton, Mass., on Sept. 9 of cancer.
