Nordstrom Has Cut Nearly 2% of Its Workers: As part of a previously announced plan to cut costs, the Nordstrom department store chain has laid off slightly less than 2%, or nearly 600, of its 30,000 employees nationwide. The Seattle-based retailer earlier this month projected cost cuts that would vary between 3% and 12% at each store, depending on performance. A Nordstrom spokesman declined to detail the distribution of the layoffs by region or job category. “Most of the cost savings came in areas other than personnel,” he said.
