New Character for Raisin Commercials: The animated raisins that sang and danced in TV commercials promoting raisin consumption have been replaced by a new clay figure. The character resembles the actor who played “Gruber” in the 1960s series “McHale’s Navy.” Behind the new campaign for the California Raisin Advisory Board is a specialty animation company, San Francisco-based Sculptoons. The founders of Sculptoons formerly worked for Will Vinton Productions, the Portland, Ore., company that created the dancing raisins characters.
