NCAA Rejects Florida Plan to Play in Bowl
The NCAA rejected an offer by the University of Florida to swap a bowl ban for cuts in football scholarships.
University President John Lombardi, who had proposed that the ban on 1990 postseason play be lifted in exchange for 12 scholarship cuts over two seasons, expressed disappointment at the NCAA action.
Coach Steve Spurrier’s football team, 4-0 and atop the Southeastern Conference, has been barred from bowl games at the end of this season.
