Fewer Grant Applications: The Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department expects to receive about 200 fewer applications for its city Endowment for the Arts-funded grants this year, despite the fact that no “window period” grants will be awarded at mid-cycle. The applications for the 1991-92 grants had to be postmarked by Tuesday, and 400 had already arrived on Thursday, with another 400 or so expected in late-arriving certified-mail bundles. A total of 1,008 applications were received last year, with almost half of those hand delivered. The arts grants are expected to be announced in late May or early June.
