Pillsbury Settles Discrimination Suit: U.S. District Judge David Doty gave preliminary approval to a $3.6-million settlement of a race discrimination suit against Pillsbury Inc. The suit, filed in May, 1989, focused almost entirely on alleged discriminatory practices against black employees and job applicants from 1984 to 1988, before the acquisition of the Minneapolis-based food company by Grand Metropolitan PLC in January, 1989. The settlement involves no finding by the court nor admission by Pillsbury or Grand Met of wrongdoing.
