A New Identity for Costner: The Sioux Nation has decided to make Kevin Costner an adopted member of the tribe in appreciation of his sensitive portrayal of the Sioux people as director and star of the film, “Dances With Wolves,” due out in theaters Nov. 9. The Sioux nation will adopt Costner as a brother of Sinte Gleska College, the place where Costner and his crew were given a crash course in Lakota, the Sioux language. About 30% of the movie is in Lakota, with subtitles. Costner and co-producer Jim Wilson and co-star Mary McDonnell will all be adopted in a ceremony in Washington on Friday .
