Rig Count Is Up 33: Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma led an increase of 33 to 1,089 in the number of working oil and natural gas rigs in the United States, according to toolmaker Baker Hughes Inc. That compares with 992 a year ago. The count represents the number of rigs actively exploring for oil, not those producing oil.
