Vincent Backs Giants Moving to Santa Clara

Saying that the “Santa Clara Giants” has a nice ring to it, baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent lent his support Monday to moving the San Francisco Giants from Candlestick Park to the city of Santa Clara, about 40 miles south.
“It has a certain cadence,” Vincent said. “If you get the vote, it will be a big league name. I guarantee it.”
Vincent announced his support for the move in San Jose. He said it was the best option in a “dire” situation created by voters in San Francisco, who defeated a measure to build a new ballpark in the city.
Next month, voters in Santa Clara County will decide whether to build a $153-million stadium.
