Great Western Can’t Switch Insurance Funds: A federal appeals court rejected an attempt by Beverly Hills-based Great Western Bank to switch its deposit insurance coverage from the fund insuring thrifts to the fund insuring banks. Great Western wanted the switch in part because banks pay lower premiums than thrifts. Both funds are administered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
