SHORT TAKES : Humorist Boren to Teach Politics
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Political humorist James Boren, who ran for President in 1984 on the slogan “I’ve got what it takes to take what you’ve got,” will teach a political science course at Northeastern State University.
Boren, cousin of Sen. David Boren (D-Okla.), will begin teaching “Interest Groups in American Politics” in January.
Lyle Haskins, head of the school’s political science department, said if Boren stays at Northeastern beyond the year, he will be asked to develop a course on the role of humor in international relations and politics.
“That’s right up his alley,” Haskins said.
Boren, 64, has a doctorate from the University of Texas, a master’s from USC and two bachelor’s degrees, all in government and economics.
