An Earthy Discussion
Preserving the planet will be the topic of discussion as political activist-author-photographer John Nichols presents his latest book at the Ventura Bookstore Wednesday.
“The Sky’s the Limit: a Defense of the Earth” is a series of color photographs of an unspoiled mesa near Nichols’ home in New Mexico. Nichols will present a slide show of the mesa and speak of its fate and that of the planet.
“We thought we’d take advantage of his ideas and turn it into something more than just the usual book promotion,” said Ventura Bookstore co-owner Ed Elrod.
“Since topics like growth and the environment are such important issues here, we sought him out to discuss and shed light on these matters,” he said.
Nichols may be known best for his popular New Mexico trilogy of novels; “Milagro Beanfield War,” “The Magic Journey” and “Nirvana Blues.”
The discussion and slide presentation will be held at 5 p.m. in the meeting hall above the bookstore, 522 E. Main St., Ventura. There is no charge. Nichols will autograph copies of his book after the lecture. Those unable to attend may reserve personally inscribed copies by calling in advance. Call 643-6532.
