Hollywood Park’s fall meeting, which includes five major races during its 37-day run, opens today with the $60,000 Allez France Handicap at 1 1/16 miles on grass.
With a Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule, plus Monday racing on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 12, and closing day, Dec. 24, Hollywood will have a first post of 1 p.m., with the exception of 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving, Nov. 22, and 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Jose Santos, the New York jockey who plans to stay in California through the Santa Anita winter season, has landed the mount on Daughter of Wolf, a longshot in the Allez France. Santos, the national money champion for four straight years, trails Gary Stevens by about $500,000 in the standings this year. Stevens is riding Invitation Waltz, an English filly making her American debut, in the Allez France.
