A search for better wind scrambled the standings on the third day of the Los Angeles Yacht Club’s race to Cabo San Lucas. Grand Illusion, Ed McDowell’s Santa Cruz 70 from King Harbor Yacht Club, sailed only 99 miles in the last reported 24 hours--about half what the ULDB 70s expect to do--but moved from third to first among the second-day starters as Brack Duker’s Evolution dropped from first to sixth.
Among last Friday’s first-day starters, Vamp, Charles Kushell’s Tripp 36 from the Pacific Mariners YC, remained the overall leader at 236 miles.
