10 Area Teams Advance in Football Playoffs

Paramount, Lynwood and Downey, three San Gabriel Valley League teams, have advanced to the second round of the Southern Section Division II high school football playoffs Friday night.
They are among 10 Long Beach/Southeast area teams still alive.
Top-seeded and undefeated (11-0) Paramount, which defeated Rio Mesa, 27-7, last week, will play host to Muir (8-3).
Lynwood (6-5), a 31-27 winner over Thousand Oaks, will be at home against 10-1 El Toro, and Downey (8-3), which beat Royal, 17-10, will host Mission Viejo (10-1).
In Division III, St. Paul (6-3-2) will play 6-5 Beverly Hills at El Segundo High School. The Swordsmen advanced with a 21-8 victory over Orange.
In Division IV, Bell Gardens (8-3) will have a home game against 11-0 Santa Margarita. The Lancers defeated Walnut, 3-0, last week.
In Division VII, Glenn (8-2), a 40-19 winner over St. Francis, will play at 10-1 Lompoc, and 9-2 La Mirada, which defeated Harvard, 21-14, will play host to top-seeded 9-0 Serra.
In Division IX, Whittier Christian (10-0), which downed San Jacinto, 52-6, will play at Desert (8-3), and 5-5 Valley Christian, which advanced by beating Carpinteria, 17-14, will host 8-3 Bishop.
And in Division X, Leffingwell Christian, which had a bye last week, will play Camp Kilpatrick (6-3-1) at Excelsior High School.
All games start at 7:30.
