Man Pleads Guilty to Shooting Cabbie

On the eve of his trial, a New York man pleaded guilty Friday to attempted murder in the July shooting of a Yellow Cab driver.
Lester McGibbon, 33, could be sentenced to a maximum of 14 years in state prison, according to court records.
San Diego Superior Court Judge William Mudd set sentencing for Jan. 18 and dismissed a second count of robbing the driver.
William Tufford, 47, was shot in the back and left lying on a sidewalk near San Diego State University after the gunman drove off in his cab on July 13.
The wounding of Tufford followed two other shootings of local taxi drivers--including one who was shot to death--during apparent robberies in a two-week period in July.
McGibbon was arrested in Los Angeles days after the shooting.
