A 39-year-old man was fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Pacific Highway, San Diego police reported Monday.
Richard Dreger of Chula Vista was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, the county coroner’s office said. The driver of the vehicle that struck Dreger fled, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Dreger was southbound on Pacific near Barnett Avenue when he was overtaken and hit, Robinson said. Dreger and his bike were dragged more than a quarter of a mile before they became detached from the vehicle, he said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Sgt. Mike Healey of the Police Department’s traffic division at 495-7805.
