California IN BRIEF : AVENAL : Youth, Parents Get Jail Work Furlough
- Share via
A youth and his parents must spend time in a jail work furlough program for being involved in providing beer and wine coolers at a party after Hanford High School’s graduation last June. Norman Macedo, 47, and Betty Macedo, 41, will have to spend two weekends on a work furlough program. Their son, Jimmy, 18, was ordered to spend 10 days on work furlough. The parents also were fined $250 each and ordered to do 40 hours of community service. The son’s driver’s license was restricted to traveling to and from UCLA, where he is a freshman. Jimmy Macedo was accused of buying alcohol for a party at which those attending paid $3 apiece for all the beer they could drink, or $1 for wine coolers. Authorities said the party was not held in the Macedo home. But a complaint was filed against the parents on grounds that they were there serving food and knew in advance that alcohol would be served to the underaged graduates.
