Early Oscar: Italian actress Sophia Loren has been awarded an honorary Oscar by the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Academy President Karl Malden made the announcement Monday, calling Loren “one of the genuine treasures of world cinema who, in a career rich with memorable performances, has added permanent luster to our art form.” Loren received an Oscar in 1961 for her performance in “Two Women.”
