Walnut : Street Renaming Studied

Prominent local citizens may soon see their names on city street signs as part of a plan under consideration by city officials.
The City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a plan to change the names of several streets in the Gartel-Fuerte area.
Council members did not mention anyone by name, but there was a suggestion from a man in the audience who said the honor should go to two members of the Planning Commission.
The council was responding to concerns that emergency vehicles and others are being confused by odd street alignments involving Fuerte Drive, Pierre Road, the Pierre cutoff and Sunny Glen Drive.
Mayor Ray Watson will appoint a panel or use an existing committee to create guidelines for the naming and renaming of streets in 90 days.
