DIVISIONS I-AA, I-A GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Marina 86, Hemet 39--Sophomore Aimee Periolat scored 15 points and Jessica Trippet added 13 points and nine rebounds for host Marina (22-4) in a first-round I-A game. Jennifer Maggard scored 10 points for Hemet (3-19).

Cerritos 50, Esperanza 44--Amy Hughlett scored 14 points and Shannon Perry had 13 to lead visiting Cerritos (17-9). Martha Miller had 12 for Cerritos, which led, 24-21, at halftime and took control of the game with a 15-6 third quarter. Esperanza came back with a 17-11 fourth period, but it wasn’t enough. Kerry Edwards led Esperanza (16-8) with 16 points, and Lisa Ruppe had 11.

In a Division I-AA game:

Fountain Valley 64, Don Lugo 46--Shanna Wilson scored 16 points, 12 of them on three-point shots, and Julie Murdent added 11 points for host Fountain Valley (18-9). Melissa Starr had 13 points for Don Lugo. Fountain Valley led, 32-29, at halftime and broke the game open in the third quarter, extending its lead to 49-37 by the end of the quarter.
