WAR IN BRIEF : JORDAN : Iraqi Relief Official Calls for Global Aid

A top Iraqi relief organizer appealed for humanitarian aid and warned of epidemics spreading beyond Iraq’s borders. “I appeal to the world’s humanitarian societies to offer us aid, assistance and everything that alleviates human suffering, especially that of women and children,” Ahmed Khaled Abdul-Hameed, head of foreign relations at the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, told a news conference in Amman, Jordan. He said his country’s 18 million people will soon face epidemics of cholera and typhoid from water and sewage systems damaged by the war.
