TAIWAN: The Ministry of Economic Affairs has unveiled a seven-part plan to steer Taiwan toward becoming an Asian economic powerhouse. In an effort to shift to a more advanced industrial structure, the government is promoting new incentives for research and development, automation, quality control, the introduction of sophisticated technology and increased foreign investment. The government will also help expand Taiwan’s small companies, which dominate the economy and lack the technology and capital to become global players.
