THOUSAND OAKS : Panel to Debate Plan to Raze Restaurant

A proposal to demolish Du-par’s Restaurant to make room for a two-building shopping center will be considered by the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission at its meeting tonight.
The developer, The Village Co., wants to level the 30-year-old restaurant at the northwest corner of Thousand Oaks and Conejo boulevards and construct in its place two single-story buildings that would house retail stores, Thousand Oaks Planner Bob Rickards said.
Du-par’s Restaurant was opened before Thousand Oaks was incorporated and serves as a meeting place for the community. The restaurant is also frequently patronized by senior citizens.
The 2 1/2-acre property is a particularly sensitive area for development because of its high visibility from Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Moorpark Road and the Ventura Freeway, which are all considered scenic highways.
