AFTERMATH OF WAR : POWs: The Free Lunch
Ending weeks as prisoners of war, the six Americans, three Britons and one Italian were provided with their first meals in freedom: CHEESEBURGERS, PEPSI AND SWISS CHOCOLATE. The former POWs--the first to be released under the cease-fire agreement reached Sunday between U.S. Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf and Iraqi commanders--were turned over to the International Red Cross in Baghdad and from there headed to Jordan, where they arrived late Monday. They were flown next to Bahrain for examinations aboard a U.S. Navy hospital ship there. At least six Americans remain as prisoners, and 35 are still listed as missing in action.
