ORANGE — Authorities on Tuesday were hunting for a prisoner who scaled two fences to escape from the Theo Lacy branch jail.
Gulliermo Manriquez, 24, of Huntington Beach met with his attorney in the jail’s visiting area about 5:30 p.m. and was heading back to his housing area when he apparently climbed over a fence onto the roof of an adjoining building, Lt. Jay Mendez said.
Manriquez apparently walked through an empty construction site and then scaled a 6-foot construction fence, landing on a bike trail overlooking the Santa Ana River, Mendez said.
Searchers failed to find him.
Manriquez had been in jail since March 5 on a charge of possessing a controlled substance, Mendez said. He is not considered dangerous.
