IRVINE HO: Her grandparents came to California in covered wagons over a century ago, and their stories sparked in Elizabeth Annis a youthful passion for early California history. . . . That love has prompted the 87-year-old Laguna Beach woman to endow UC Irvine’s library with its largest-ever gift--about $350,000--to create its first research collection in early state history. The remainder of her $500,000 trust will support a fellowship for promising graduate students. “Libraries are important places to me,” said the former college Spanish instructor. “Building a good library is one of the best things you can do.”
