La Jolla Is Victor in Academic Battle
La Jolla High School won the county high school Academic League Championship Tuesday night, clobbering Santana High School, 140 to 20, in the finals.
La Jolla defeated Gompers Secondary School in San Diego, 111 to 37, and Santana overwhelmed Escondido’s San Pasqual High, 91 to 18, to gain the two top spots.
In the academic league, five-member teams of students compete to answer questions. Teams score points by first vying for three-point “toss-up” questions. The team that answers a toss-up question correctly then attempts to gain up to five additional points by correctly answering multipart follow-up questions.
