Canadian Retailer May Move Offices to U.S.: Toronto-based Hudson’s Bay Co. is thinking “very seriously” of relocating a large part of its organization south of the border to save money, according to a published report. Maclean’s magazine quoted an unnamed executive as saying that government policies unfavorable to business are the reason that the 321-year-old retailer is considering moving to border cities such as Buffalo, N.Y., or Spokane, Wash. The move, which the magazine says could cost as many as 2,000 Canadian jobs, would allow Hudson’s Bay to take advantage of lower U.S. tax rates and operating costs.
