Lubner Replaces Lozano on Dukes’ Roster
The Newport Beach Dukes named Richard Lubner, a former UC Irvine All-American, to take the place of Jorge Lozano, who injured his back during Sunday’s match against Wichita.
Lubner reached the 1989 NCAA doubles semifinals with Mark Kaplan and was the Big West Conference champion at No. 2 singles in 1990. A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Lubner was named the 1990 NCAA District 8 Unsung Player of the Year.
The Dukes (1-2) will have Lubner for at least the next two matches--tonight at San Antonio and Thursday at Wichita.
Lozano, a veteran Davis Cup player for Mexico, suffered back spasms during a doubles set.
