A Cal State Long Beach professor was charged Tuesday with the shooting death of his landlord, a Fire Department paramedic. Eric Hansen, 53, pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, which includes a special allegation of using a handgun, and was being held on $250,000 bail. A bail review hearing was scheduled July 19, and the preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 28.
Hansen, a business management professor, allegedly shot his landlord, Paramedic Anthony Dzida, 37, Saturday evening during an argument. Dzida, who was shot twice in the chest, died an hour later at Long Beach Community Hospital.
Dzida and his wife rented a room at their Belmont Heights home to Hansen, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Bob Caldon said. He said the argument arose after Dzida tried to evict Hansen.
