Glendale real estate developer Ken Doty has been installed as the 1991-92 president of the Glendale Regional Arts Council. Doty, the owner of Doty Development and Construction Co., replaces Vincent Acosta of the Colony Studio Theater. The council is an umbrella group of business and arts leaders who promote civic expression of the arts.
Lea Schmidt, a resident of Broadway Manor in Glendale, will be 100 Monday. Born Leala Marguerite Lanham on a farm in Illinois, Schmidt came to Los Angeles in 1918. After working many years for the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office, she retired in 1955. Schmidt’s birthday will be celebrated Sunday at La Crescenta Church of Religious Science.
Glendale High School senior Melanie Smith, winner of a Media Partners in Progress scholarship, is working this summer at KNVC-TV/ Channel 4 in a program to prepare minority students for careers in television news. In paid summer jobs until she completes college, Smith will rotate through all departments at the station. The program is sponsored by the Foundation for Minority Interests in Media.
