WORLD IN BRIEF : CANADA : Court Strikes Down ‘Rape Shield’ Law

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that rape victims may be questioned in court about their sexual history in a decision women’s groups predicted will prevent many from reporting assaults. The high court, by a vote of 7 to 2, struck down a “rape shield” law that protected victims from disclosing their sexual experiences, holding that the law obstructed the rights of the accused to a fair trial.
