NATION IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Lie-Test Transcript Released in Rape Case
- Share via
Prosecutors in William Kennedy Smith’s West Palm Beach, Fla., rape case, ignoring defense pleas to stop releasing possibly damaging material, made public a 100-page transcript of the alleged victim’s polygraph test. In it, she says Smith attacked her and adds, “I didn’t do anything wrong.” Earlier, prosecutors had said the polygraph expert, Warren Holmes of Miami, believes the woman is telling the truth. Defense attorneys have claimed that such publicity will make it impossible for Smith, nephew of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), to obtain a fair trial. Prosecutors insist they are following Florida public records law.
