2 Sides to ‘Sexual Conspiracy’

In reading Tim Rutten’s article complaining about the government dropping its sexual survey of 24,000 teen-agers, I couldn’t help remembering a quotation on the front page about another government study--the one showing a “glass ceiling” preventing women and minorities from climbing the corporate ladder. Patricia Ireland of the National Organization for Women said: “We don’t need any more studies; we need enforcement.”
One might also wonder whether we need more studies of how teen-agers contract sexually transmitted diseases. It seems obvious that they are a result of sexual promiscuity. The federal money which would have been used for the study should be applied to teaching teen-agers that the only truly safe sex is abstinence.
