ALISO VIEJO : Postal Service to Buy 25.5 Acres for Plant
The U.S. Postal Service announced on Friday that it has entered into an agreement to purchase a 25.5-acre site in Aliso Viejo to build a fully automated mail-processing facility.
The Postal Service Board of Governors authorized the purchase earlier this month, but the price will not be announced until September after escrow has closed, said Hector G. Godinez, general manager and postmaster of the Santa Ana division of the Postal Service.
The Postal Service wants to build a South County plant because of the growth in that area, to decrease delays caused by increased traffic on the freeways used to transport mail, and to make room for the automated equipment that will speed mail processing.
Construction of the project is expected to begin next summer and conclude in the fall of 1993.
