Greek Tourism Chief Fired for Balking at Bill

ATHENS — Greek Tourism Minister Ioannis Kefaloyiannis was dismissed Monday for publicly refusing to sign a bill banning seaside hotel construction.
A government spokesman said Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis requested the minister’s resignation after Kefaloyiannis made his disagreement public by issuing statements to the press.
The bill, designed to protect beaches, was drafted by the Environment Ministry.
