Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Blast and Fires Leave 3 Dead, 19 Injured

At least three people were killed and 19 others were hurt after an explosion caused the partial collapse of two apartment buildings on a main shopping street in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, fire officials said. Fire department spokesman Tom Kelly said that fires broke out and both buildings were engulfed in flames seconds after the blast, which he said “blew out the front of one building and blew debris all over the street.” The cause of the blast was not immediately evident.
