Heat Sets Record in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO — The summer that never was flared up for at least a day in downtown San Francisco, where the temperature hit 94 degrees Monday, shattering a 102-year-old record.
Light offshore winds cut off the sea breeze and warmed the city on the unofficial last day of summer, said National Weather Service meteorologist Gary Lipari.
“It’s as hot in San Francisco as it is in Livermore, when usually there’s a 30-degree difference,” said Lipari.
The previous high for the date in San Francisco was 88 degrees in 1889, he said.
