Scan, with Jose Santos riding, split horses to take the lead after entering the stretch and drew away for a four-length victory over Excellent Tipper in the $200,000 Jerome Handicap at Belmont Park. Scan covered a mile in 1:34 and paid $6.80, $4.20 and $3.40. Excellent Tipper paid $9.40 and $5.00 and King Mutesa $8.00 for third.
