Lufthansa Wants Pan Am Sale Blocked: Germany’s national flag carrier raised the possibility of new trouble for Pan Am Corp.’s sale of assets to Delta Air Lines by asking the German government to block the deal. Lufthansa wants to renegotiate a 1955 civil aviation treaty with the United States, which it said “no longer fits current competition conditions and places German airlines at a disadvantage.” It wasn’t clear whether the government will respond to Lufthansa’s demand. Delta acquired most of Pan Am’s assets for $1.39 billion Aug. 12. Some of the most valuable components of the sale are in Germany.
