The Detroit Red Wings signed Soviet defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov to a multiyear contract.
Konstantinov, 24, was fifth in scoring among defensemen in the Soviet Elite League last year with five goals and 12 assists in 45 games. He was Detroit’s 12th pick in the 1989 NHL entry draft.
