In the market for an air force but lack the proper zoning permits? Santa Monica’s Museum of Flying has just the auction for budding generals, heads of state and flyboys.
Its second annual summer clearance sale on Oct. 5 and 6 will feature 70 planes, including an F6F Hellcat, P-38 Lightning, B-17 Flying Fortress, Voyager replica and rare Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero. Expect to pay from $30,000 to $1.5 million, plus the $100 auction registration fee. Also on the block, aviation memorabilia: World War II posters, leather bomber jackets and flight suits, aircraft nose art, flight manuals, missiles, engines and propellers.
If you’re just looking, a public preview of auction items will be held Sept. 28 and 29. Admission is $5.
