PARIS — A mystery pilot flew a small plane under the Eiffel Tower early Sunday, defying a strict ban on flights in the area, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.
The spokesman said the single-engine aircraft flew through the 245-foot gap between the pillars of the 1,060-foot Paris landmark.
The red-and-yellow plane, which had been stolen, was found abandoned in a field east of Paris, the spokesman said. The pilot had vanished.
