Going in Circles

We were dismayed by the court order which has delayed the construction of the safety traffic circles, designed to slow and lessen the traffic flow through Crest, Alta and 15th streets.
This residential area, cherished like the rest of Del Mar for its rural ambiance, is becoming more and more a speed shortcut.
The landscaped traffic islands, which have been in the planning stage for several years, were designed by traffic engineers to meet safety needs while helping to restore some of the rural atmosphere of Del Mar.
It is unfortunate that the instigators of the petition against the islands did not take time to direct their energy and efforts during the 14-year planning period. Also, it is regrettable that many of the petitioners did not receive information as to the true nature and purpose of the traffic circles.
This interference, besides fostering a hazardous traffic situation, could create a precedent for last-minute blockings of city projects.
