Lakeside

A 27-year-old Lakeside man was killed early Saturday after apparently falling asleep at the wheel of his car along Interstate 8 east of the community of Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Gregario Serrano Acosta was driving east on the freeway about 3:30 a.m. when his late model Ford Thunderbird suddenly slid sideways, coming to rest in the middle of both lanes.

A short time later, the car was struck by a tractor-trailer rig that had rounded a curve and could not stop in time to avoid Acosta’s vehicle.

Acosta was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, who was not identified by authorities, suffered only minor injuries.
