Bankers Want More Options: With their industry in financial straits, bankers attending an annual convention in San Francisco said they are anxious to obtain government approval to sell insurance and securities and have nationwide branches. American Bankers Assn. conferees said they want to offer a range of financial services--such as mutual funds, mortgage and auto insurance, investments for retirement savings--to build their customer base.
