Sleeping Baby Hurt When Car Hits House

A car plowed through a garage into the nursery of a San Dimas home early Sunday, critically injuring a sleeping 4-month-old boy, sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities said the infant, Thomas Hombos, was found by deputies on the roof of a 1972 Chevrolet Nova driven by Daniel Batres, 18, of Pomona. Batres, who initially left the scene but returned with a friend, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and drunk driving, Deputy George Ducoulombier said.

Batres told deputies he was unable to avoid hitting the home in the 1000 block of Walnut Avenue because the accelerator on his car was stuck, Ducoulombier said.

When deputies arrived at the 12:42 a.m. accident, Ducoulombier said, the child’s parents were frantically trying to reach him, but were prevented from doing so by the wreckage.
