Gays Stage Protest March in East Hollywood Area

An estimated 1,500 gay rights activists marched about three miles through East Hollywood, Silver Lake and Echo Park Sunday night.
Police reported no arrests during the demonstration, which blocked several major thoroughfares, including Sunset Boulevard, Glendale Boulevard and exits and entrances to the Glendale Freeway.
The protest was prompted by Gov. Pete Wilson’s veto last week of a bill that would have banned job discrimination against homosexuals.
The demonstration apparently was spontaneous and did not follow a planned route. LAPD Capt. Dan Schatz said at the scene: “We have no idea where they’re going. We’re just letting them walk.”
There have been nightly protests since Wilson’s veto Sept. 29.
“What’s wonderful is that this is Day Eight and this is still going on,” said protester John Paschal.
